Parched

Imagine the opening scene of a detective story: a camera glides through a landscape, past broken branches and dried-out leaves. Something has clearly happened in this forest. A detective appears, searching for clues. But where is the victim? And is the detective truly innocent?

Parched is a video installation that explores the metaphorical ‘murder’ of a landscape. The work delves into the connections between humans and nature, questioning roles of guilt and responsibility. The installation layers various visual elements, including drypoint etchings that are brought to life through animation, and filmed footage of a miniature landscape. These elements combine to create a narrative that reflects on the ecological impact of human actions, with the miniature landscape serving as evidence within the installation itself.
