Marijn Dijkmeijer - fine art
video & printmaking
I am Marijn Dijkmeijer (1995), a filmmaker and animator exploring the stories we create to understand ourselves and the world around us. Through my video installations, I examine how these narratives shape our perception of reality, identity, and the environment.
I work within the tradition of the essay film, blending documentary, fiction, personal reflection, and manifesto. My work investigates themes like ecology, guilt, and the relationships between humans and nature.

Visually, I combine various techniques such as drawings, photographs, stop-motion animation, and video footage. I am interested in how meaning shifts when different visual elements come together. In projects like Parched, I bring traditionally static media, such as drypoint etchings, to life through animation, blending handcrafted imagery with video.
By exploring and reinterpreting stories, my work looks at how meaning changes and the ways these stories influence our understanding of the world.
